SCAPE’s New Book: Now Available

Aug 15, 2016

Toward an Urban Ecology (Monacelli Press, 2016) is an extended case study of SCAPE’s practice, showing how the firm unites social and ecological systems to sustainably remake our cities and landscapes. Interviews with scientists, aquaculture experts, sociologists, and community activists are combined with descriptions of the design projects that these collaborations inspire.

SCAPE conceives design as a form of activism, creating projects shaped by collective engagement and revealing how embedded natural processes, cycles, and systems can help shape the cities of the future. This toolkit for the next wave of urban designers explains how to cultivate an ethos of civic participation and ecological regeneration in projects and work toward a more resilient an inclusive built environment.
