Greenpoint Wins NYC Public Design Commission Excellence Award

May 15, 2017

SCAPE is honored to announce that our design for the Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center has been recognized by the NYC Public Design Commission with an Excellence in Design Award. This annual award recognizes outstanding projects that promote excellence and innovation in the public realm. The joint collaboration with SCAPE, Marble Fairbanks Architects and the Brooklyn Public Library was selected from hundreds of submissions reviewed by the Commission to receive this honor.

The library provides the public with a sustainable civic space that reinterprets the environmental history of the region through landscape design. SCAPE created three distinct spaces – a public plaza, a rooftop reading room and eco-lab, and a rooftop demonstration garden – all to accommodate the wide range of programming required for this dual library branch and environmental education center. Exceeding LEED Silver goals, the center will become a demonstration project for innovative approaches to sustainable design.
