SCAPE Attends US Army Corps of Engineers Workshop

Aug 10, 2017

Gena and Pippa attended an Engineering with Nature workshop at the end of July hosted by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Dredge Research Collaborative. The workshop, which took place at the US Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, was attended by USACE members and several Landscape Architects from around the country. During the two and a half day event, participants discussed and exchanged ideas on approaching water-centric projects from the perspectives of engineering and design.

SCAPE presented Living Breakwaters as a key case study that exemplifies the integration of engineering and design. Other projects that were discussed include work in the Great Lakes area and in Coastal Texas. The outcome of the workshop was the identification of more than 40 potential projects and opportunities, where designers can work with collaborative teams to integrate engineering criteria with social and ecological systems.
