Tune in CUNY TV on May 28!

may 24, 2013

Rising sea levels, alternative energy sources, weather forecasting, and how nature offers protection from the elements are explored in Climate Change and the Environment, an all-new “Science & U!” premiering Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 8 am, 2pm and 8pm (repeating Saturday, June 1 at 5:30pm) on CUNY TV.

* CUNY TV is broadcast in the tri-state area on Ch. 25.3 and cablecast in the five boroughs of New York City on Ch. 75 (Time Warner and Cablevision/Optimum) and on other cable systems. After May 28, the program may be viewed online at http://www.cuny.tv/show/scienceandu/PR2001865

The NY Emmy®-nominated science magazine series consults Stephen Pekar of Queens College/CUNY’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and John Miller, Ph.D., from the Stevens Institute of Technology, about the effects of warming on sea water and what the future will bring; environmental scientist journalist Emily Driscoll and landscape architect Kate Orff talk about the oyster, a long-neglected natural resource for New York Harbor; Sam Cochran, co-founder & CEO of S.M.I.T. Inc., tells of an imaginative new approach to capturing solar energy; a visit to the National Weather Service Forecasting Operations Center at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island with meteorologist Gary Conte shows how NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is committed to making the U.S. “a weather-ready nation”; and a new exhibit, “Our Global Kitchen,” at the American Museum of Natural History, and an interview with Robert Lawrence, M.D. from the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, explore the connection between the environment and food. Plus: insights on food foraging from author Tama Matsuoka Wong, and an overview of what we all can do to lessen global warming. This month’s CUNY TV “Science & U!” team is Andrew Falzon, Mike Gilliam, Donna Hanover, Lisa Beth Kovetz, Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson, and Carol Anne Riddell.
