Harvard Graduate School of Design alumna Kate Orff is the founder of the award-winning studio SCAPE. With a background in Political and Social Thought from the University of Virginia, and intensive training in ecology and the fine arts, her approach to the landscape merges strong form with community- based and participatory-change models. Her lecture will explore the typologies of nature in the city and discuss urban biodiversity in projects such as Oyster-tecture, Safari 7, Bird Safe Design Guidelines, the 170-acre Blue Wall Environmental Center, and small parks and plazas. Kate Orff is also an Assistant Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at Columbia and director of the Urban Landscape Lab.
