Join photographer Richard Misrach and landscape architect Kate Orff for a presentation of their collaborative project, Petrochemical America (Aperture 2012)!
The book brings into focus the industrialized landscape of the Mississippi River Corridor that stretches from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, a region once known as "cancer alley." Misrach will discuss his haunting photographs of communities surrounded by industry, and Orff will present the Ecological Atlas, a series of visual narratives, or “throughlines,” that visualize the region in space and time. The dialogue between photograph and drawing begins to unpack complex economic and ecological forces that have shaped this landscape, mapping cycles of extraction and transformation on a regional, national, even global scale.
