Johannes Pointl obtained his post-professional master degree in Urban Design at Columbia University with a fellowship from the Fulbright Program and a professional degree in architecture from Graz University of Technology, Austria. While at Columbia, he was the recipient of the Honor Award for Excellence in Design and the William Kinne Traveling Prize. At SCAPE, Johannes is a lead Urban Designer for the Town Branch Commons Master Plan in Lexington, KY which looks to reintegrate the Town Branch Creek with Lexington’s downtown fabric. He is also working with the NYCEDC on coastal protection strategies that will be utilized in preparation for the next Superstorm. His professional work includes realized architectural projects in Austria and Greece and the contribution to publications on urban design in Belgium, Germany, Haiti and Ghana; the latter a collaboration between the Urban Design Lab and the Millennium Cities Initiative at Columbia’s Earth Institute. Johannes is co-teaching an urban design studio at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
