The 80 Arts Garden design transformed a vacant lot in the Brooklyn Academy of Music Cultural District into a tranquil and shady gathering space for the expanding Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA). The centerpiece of the garden is the textual ground plane, composed of a mosaic of rare black and grey granites and limestones, which define the space and provide a warm and textured surface. Stone mill wheels and a stair block create the long stone benches spanning the space. The garden accommodates daily use from the building occupants as well as parties and openings hosted by MoCADA, extending the galleries and the museum activity outdoors.
