Haikou Resort
Hainan Island, China
The landscape approach of the Haikou Villas and Resort explored vegetated density as a form-making strategy to carve private and public spaces out of a variegated bamboo forest. The pixelated plan layout absorbs the elevated architecture proposed by KKA into a pattern of artificial and natural surfaces and shapes. The bamboo forest is varied in type, density and spacing. This planting strategy delineates paths and water features positioned through the units while blocking private yards from public areas.
