Jay Street Plaza

Brooklyn, NY
  • Plaza

Jay Street Plaza is part of a new mixed-use complex in Downtown Brooklyn that creates a pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly street with new community amenities. The inviting street edges provide ample opportunities for social or solitary seating among staggered street trees, which screen the adjacent urban condition of the active Jay Street thoroughfare. Large river stones are dispersed throughout a hardscape ‘streambed’ of blue and white blasted-glass pavers that define the continuous art corridor as it runs through the plaza along Concord Street. A granite wall emerges from the ground and defines an outward facing seating edge that embraces the city, and an enclosed seating zone closer to the building. A mix of dark and light grey pavers animate the plaza and make circulation patterns legible at the human scale. Dark pavers draw pedestrians into the plaza and guide them to the building entrances, while lighter toned pavers signify spaces for socializing and playing. Jay Street Plaza is an engaging year-round community amenity and
a vital neighborhood asset for Downtown Brooklyn.
