SCAPE developed the landscape concept for the outdoor spaces of the Montague Pierrepont Apartments by Marvel Architects and Jonathan Rose Companies in Brooklyn Heights. The design imitates the layered ecologies of mountains, which change with the elevation of the two residential towers. A sunken viewing garden and communal courtyard incorporate dense and shady plantings with varied textures, including ferns, moss and stones to recreate the forest floor and understory in the urban environment.
Residents of all ages will be able to enjoy the second-floor courtyard play area and community deck, which are enclosed by vine walls and feature game tables, wood decking, and bench seating along the edge of the planted buffer. The roof decks use stepped seating and sparse and low planting to allow for views of Manhattan and the New York Harbor.
