Sanya Resort

Hainan Island, China

SCAPE developed a master plan and landscape design for the new Sanya Resort based on a thorough analysis of the site’s complex topography and by magnifying its natural features. The site is re-engineered to accommodate the architecture by building up the ground through a series of stepped terraces that contain hotel rooms, gardens, water features and spectacular views. The landscape design places special emphasis on slope stabilization and native planting, and creates a deep drainage corridor following topographical data that will also become the site’s most dramatic feature. The site will appear as a lush green landscape from above and beautiful stepped gardens will frame the view out to the sea. Each dwelling opens up to the sun and sky and has a unique individual garden reinforcing Sanya’s reputation as a remarkable, unique tropical beach town.
