Yongsan International Business District Project R6

Seoul, Korea

Project R6 is a boutique urban residence for short-term occupation by young urban professionals, business people and foreign visitors located with the "dream hub" Yongsan International Buisness District (YIBD). Due to the transience of its target users and the brief duration of thier stays the unit sizes are small and the landscape designed to accommodate a diversity of experiences in a dense urban site.

As subconsultants to REX Architecture, SCAPE originated a landscape strategy that is both integrated with and surrounds the building with a central courtyard enclosed on three sides by the structure and gardens and esplanade exterior to it. A think ground of natural ground forest defines the western edge of the site, spilling into a series of public and private outdoor spaces, including a seating grove, great lawn with noise mitigating water features, strolling gardens for peaceful walks and meditative spaces for quiet refection. The landscape design functions on human scale with richly textured plantings at eye-level and on the urban scale as a monumental gateway to the Yongsan district.
