Zerega EMS Station

Bronx, NY

**DDC DESIGN EXCELLENCE PROJECT

Located on the site of a Community Garden the Bronx, the new Zerega Avenue EMS Station project for the FDNY presents a distinct challenge to meet the needs of the client and also give back to the community. SCAPE proposed a larger scale sustainable systems approach to the site, which benefits the relocated garden now on an adjacent property. Working with Smith Miller + Hawkinson Architects, SCAPE designed the landscape to incorporate stormwater management practices in the form of perimeter and interior parking swales that collect and channel water run-off, cisterns that collect excess rain water to re use on-site and supply to the relocated community garden next door, and a green roof that will optimize rain water absorption and will act as a 5th façade to the neighbor Castle Hill Housing Towers.
