The newly designed Schomburg Center streetscape creates opportunity for interaction and rest. By expanding the green buffer of existing large street trees and including new paving materials on the public sidewalk, the entry to the building serves as both a walkway and a plaza destination. As the research unit of the New York Public Library, the Schomburg Center will be able to tap into the enhanced space by displaying portions of its vast collection outside the building and bringing current events to the street and the Harlem community.
