Kate and SCAPE in this week’s PBS NewsHour

Feb 21, 2017

This week’s PBS NewsHour Episode focuses on resiliency in New York Harbor, featuring Kate’s / SCAPE’s vision for rebuilding mussels, oysters and ecological systems around New York Harbor as a resilience strategy, to prevent erosion and mitigate storm damage in the future.

The rebuilding process after Hurricane Sandy provided an opportunity to rethink the relationship between infrastructure and ecology in making a more resilient New York Harbor, as seen in SCAPE’s Living Breakwater Design Competition submission and current implementation.

As Kate remarks, “We cannot isolate these problems – we live in an ecosystem, where everything is interconnected.”
