The American Society of Landscape Architects, New York Chapter, announced the 2016 Design Award Winners yesterday.
SCAPE is honored to receive a Merit Award for Blake Hobbs Play-za. Located in the heart of East Harlem, Blake Hobbs Play-za pulls together a diverse community with a re-energized active urban space for neighborhood residents and DREAM Charter School Students. Prior to the parks’ revitalization, the site was a bland 20,000 SF asphalt play lot with degraded play equipment and an unwelcoming, tall chainlink fence. The new design preserved 20 mature London Plane trees and incorporated them into the shared park and plaza spaces.
The awards will be presented at the ASLA-NY Design Awards Ceremony and Reception on April 7th, at the Center for Architecture (map) in Manhattan, and the winning projects will be on display in an exhibit at the Center for Architecture from April 1-30, 2016.
