Battery Park City Community Center
New York, NY
The Battery Park City Community Center landscape project involves green design principles, intensive community process, universal accessibility, and the design of an outdoor terrace that will serve 2 residential towers and enhance community center programming. Over the last two years, SCAPE has worked with Hanrahan Meyers Architects and with the client, the Battery Park City Authority and Parks Conservancy, to refine programming requirements and develop concept, schematic design and design development documents for the area between sites 23 and 24 - the last remaining unbuilt parcels in BPC North Neighborhood. The project also requires extensive coordination with the two tower architects. An intimate gathering area, a "green lobby" towards the neighborhood and North End Avenue, and an iconic "lawn egg" provide community amenities and a distinct identity for the site. In this project, we have incorporated green roof technology and innovative landscape-on-structure strategies. This project is currently under construction.
