Kate on CNN with Christiane Amanpour: “It’s time to invest in natural infrastructure.”

Aug 10, 2021

This week, Kate joined journalist Christiane Amanpour on CNN International / PBS to discuss the urgency for broad-based federal investments in natural infrastructure and frontline communities.

Reflecting on the release of the latest IPCC report—which discusses the science behind climate change and its disastrous effects on earth systems—Kate said, “One emotion that I refuse to dig into is despair. We have created these challenges, but we have the imagination and the will to break through them.” Case in point: a reconciliation bill will soon be under consideration that could potentially include broad-based climate and equity initiatives across the U.S. “In my view, it’s really time for a broad investment in the natural systems and the landscapes that can sustain us,” she continued.

The discussion also covered SCAPE projects addressing these issues across the country—Living Breakwaters in Staten Island, NY; The Chattahoochee RiverLands in the Metro Atlanta Region, GA; and Tom Lee Park in Memphis, TN.
