Developed through an intensive community design process, this civic landscape stiches together two new residential towers, community ballfields, and a community recreation center, within the densely populated neighborhood of Battery Park City. An outdoor “green lobby” between the towers greets visitors at North End Avenue, while universally accessible ramps invite the public up to a promenade that follows the curve of the community center’s 550-foot glass arcade wall. During the week, the ball fields host school sports practices while the terrace attracts people from nearby office buildings on their lunch break, and on weekends, the promenade fills with families and fans who congregate to watch the ballgames below. Since opening in 2012, the community center and terrace have become a local destination and bustling community thoroughfare.
