The first phase of construction of the bulkhead has begun at Red Hoek Point. SCAPE’s design for the waterfront edge includes strategic areas where the bulkhead will be cut away or lowered to allow water and tidal action to enter the site that will create a varied, planted shoreline adaptive to rising sea levels and future storm events. These layered edges establish a dynamic, resilient edge with more opportunities for water experiences and habitat creation, and contrast the stark separation typically drawn by bulkheads between water and land.
